DirdyBird Active: Who We Are

Dirdybird Active is a company built by outdoor adventurers for outdoor adventures. With three generations inside the eyewear industry, we have a goal to create the best in all aspects of what makes a pair of glasses more than just that. With attention to comfort and performance we believe that we can continue to push the boundaries of the eyewear industry at a lower price point than the current top companies in the industry.

(1st Gen) Our knowledge reaches back in the early 70's where Hook Taylor was a sales rep for various different ski companies, one of which being Smith Optics. Hook would ski all winter and ride dirt bikes and mountain bikes all summer. During this time, Bob Smith, the then owner and founder of Smith Optics was getting very interested in making eyewear for the off-road motorcycle market. Hook helped with some goggle ideas and the rest is history. Hook continued to be an independent rep working for companies such as Scott Goggle Company and Cebe Optics. He would eventually return to Smith where he guided the company to record high sales.

(2nd Gen) Rich Taylor has been riding motorcycles since he was 10 years old. He raced professionally for over fourteen years. Earning 10 national numbers and producing several top 5 Nationals finishes. Since then he has been a test rider for Suzuki and helps develop for them. He also started his own business, Eks Brand Goggles, in 2007. Eks Brand has grown into one of the top off-road goggles in the industry. Achieving several Supercross and Motocross podiums and wins. RT is one of the top 50 most popular riders according to Transworld Motocross magazine. He was also rated amongst the top 100 most important people in the motocross world by Dirt Bike magazine. Having grown up in Sun Valley Idaho, Rich is no stranger to snow. He ski raced as a kid earning a ranking of 4th in the country in downhill, and 6th in GS.

(3rd Gen) Born practically on 2 wheels, Zach Taylor has lived the past 21 years airing out dirt jumps and railing turns. Riding dirt bikes on the weekend and going to BMX races after school during the week as a child, he would develop a competitive edge. By the time he and his brother, Richard, were into their early teens, they would take motorcycle racing much more serous. Both winning amateur national championships and competing around the nation. While competing at his best, he would have a bad crash that would halt his professional career. Breaking 27 bones in one fall, with five surgeries over the two weeks of hospitalization. Zach would never be back to his full strength, however, his optimism would push him into new avenues. He took up surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking more, and riding some laps on his dirt bike on occasion. He would also take a bigger role in the family business, Eks Brand. Over the past six years, Zach has gained knowledge through his dad and grandpa. He now is using the experiences he has gained through business and action sports to create his own brand, Dirdybird Active.
